A free Omegle alternative
Omegle shut down, and most of what's left in that space is one-stranger, one-click, little-to-no moderation. RoLivo takes a different shape.

Why Omegle shut down
Omegle ran from 2009 to November 2023. Its founder closed it after years of mounting moderation costs and legal pressure, including a lawsuit brought by someone who had been matched as a child with a predator on the service. The closing note argued the site had been unfairly singled out; the practical takeaway for anyone picking a replacement is that unmoderated random video with strangers carries real risk, and a site that pretends otherwise is not being honest with you.
What to look for in an alternative
- Moderation that exists. A report button is only worth something if a person reads the queue. Ask what happens after you press it.
- Clear data handling. Whether chats are logged, whether video is recorded, what's kept and for how long. RoLivo keeps nothing on disk and says so in the Privacy Policy.
- An age gate that means it. Most of these sites are 18+ and adult in practice; a site that hides that is a red flag.
- Not drowning in ads. Pop-ups and redirect ads are where a lot of the actual risk on these sites lives.
Text vs. video
Most Omegle successors kept the video-first format. RoLivo is deliberately text-only: it's lower-stakes, it works on a slow connection, it can't be screen-recorded into something you didn't consent to, and it doesn't put your face in front of a stranger. You can still share an image in a chat if you want to, but the default is words.
