Privacy Policy

RoLivo is built to collect as little as possible. There are no accounts, so there is no email address, password, or profile tied to you. This page explains what actually passes through the service — including the parts that are not zero, because a privacy policy that overstates the case is worse than useless.

What you provide

When you join, you choose a nickname, an age, a gender, and a country, and optionally a short bio and a few interests. These are shown to other people in the chat — that is what they are for. They are held in your browser (see "Your browser" below) and, while you are connected, in the chat server's memory. None of it is written to a database or tied to an identity.

Messages

Messages are relayed live between connected people. The server also keeps a short buffer of the most recent messages in memory — up to the last 50 in a room and up to the last 50 in a private conversation — so that reloading the page or briefly losing your connection does not wipe the conversation you are in the middle of.

That buffer lives in memory only. It is discarded when the conversation goes idle, when the room empties, and whenever the server restarts. Nothing is written to disk, there is no searchable archive, and no one can retrieve a conversation after the fact — including us.

Images

Images you share are relayed the same way as messages and are held in the same short-lived memory buffer. They are not stored on disk and are not scanned or reviewed automatically. Do not share anything you would not want the person on the other end to keep — they can screenshot or save it regardless of what we do.

IP addresses

Your IP address is processed while you are connected, in order to apply rate limits and to enforce bans. It is not shown to other users and not used for advertising or profiling.

Two cases are worth being explicit about, because they involve retention:

• If someone reports you, the report records your IP address, your nickname at the time, the reason given, and your most recent messages, so a moderator can judge it. Reports are deleted after 30 days.
• If you are banned, your IP address and the nickname you were using are kept on the ban list so the ban can be enforced. A ban is removed when a moderator lifts it.

Our hosting providers, for the website and the chat server, also keep their own standard short-lived infrastructure logs as part of running the service.

Contact form

If you use the contact form, the name, email address, and message you submit are stored so we can read and reply to them. They are deleted after 90 days, or sooner once handled.

Your browser

Your nickname and settings are stored in your browser's session storage, which the browser clears when you close the tab. If you tick "Remember me on this device" when joining, they move to local storage instead and persist until you leave the chat or clear your browser data. Your session also holds a token issued by the server, which lets a page reload rejoin as the same person; it is cleared when you leave.

Advertising and cookies

RoLivo is designed to run ads (via Google AdSense) to cover hosting costs. The ad script is not loaded at all unless you accept it in the cookie banner. If you accept, Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technology to serve and measure ads, as described in Google's own policy. If you decline, no ad cookies are set and the chat works exactly the same. We also use privacy-preserving analytics that count page views and product events (for example, "a message was sent") without recording message contents, nicknames, or IP addresses.

Your rights

If you are in the UK, the EU, or a jurisdiction with comparable law, you have rights over your personal data, including access, correction, deletion, and objection to processing. The honest practical position is this: because there are no accounts, we have no way to link a request to a past session, so in almost every case there is nothing held that we could identify as yours. The exceptions are an active ban record, an open report, and a contact-form message — for those, get in touch from the email address you used or with the IP address concerned, and we will action it.

Our lawful basis for processing IP addresses for moderation is legitimate interest: keeping the service usable and safe. Our basis for advertising cookies is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Age

RoLivo is for adults: you must be 18 or over to use it. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor is using the service, please report them in the chat or through the contact page.
